The Lounge

The Lounge

The old church building is a fantastic space devoted to the Arts. A leisure space where an extensive collection of Artworks and Artifacts are highlighted by the tall ceilings.
Comfy couches and armchairs are arranged in an elegant and comfortable ambience softening the imposing minimalism of the church walls. Soft Jazz or classical music can usually be heard playing in the background.

The Reading Room

The Reading Room

The reading room is a welcoming retreat with a cozy fireplace and featuring an extensive selection of books. The collection includes both rare, vintage and new books, with genres ranging from art and literature to history, poetry, science and biographies, among others.  You can find books written  in English, French, Portuguese, Greek and Spanish.
A portrait of Mme. Maria Raquel painted by the renowned Portuguese painter Eduardo Malta watches over the serenity of the place, giving us a glimpse of the beautiful lady who found the ruins of the convent, while out for a stroll with her son Miguel.
An artist at heart, Raquel dedicated her last years to the recuperation of the Convento, transforming it into a loving home for her family.  Miguel, has inherited his mother’s love for the Convento and maintains her dedication to this wonderful place, making it possible for Convento to remain a refuge  for artists and travellers alike.
On the shelves we also find many volumes belonging to the private collection of Eng. Carlos Amaral Netto, her husband, who was a respected and dedicated statesman for most of his life.

The Gardens

The Gardens

Throughout the garden spaces, a variety of flowers bloom, infusing the air with their scent and making for delicate shade.  You can listen to the many bird songs that fill the air, read a book or just day dream under the shade of a tree. In the garden you will find a huge variety of plants with many colourful flowers, aromatic herbs, beautiful cedars and olive trees, among others.
We have a little plant and tree nursery as well as  several centenary trees surrounding a field of wild flowers.
Our garden is bee friendly and we observe the philosophy of permaculture. In our orchard, there are lemon and orange trees, apple and peach trees, figs and plums, among others.
Guests are welcome to delight themselves on the ripe fruit they can pick straight from the trees, when in season.
